Automakers try to meet tightening government fuel economy regulations and designer , Michael Arbaugh proposed to throw away CD player in automobile to reduce weight. Arbaugh’s vision to save an average of 5 lbs in weight which is a big deal for automakers.
It is not just lighten the load but it also opens up some highly valuable space. With technical advancements and changes taking place, designers would easily replace the CD player.

I think it is not a big deal to loss CD player especially in this era. We can get entertainment without CD player using another small technology.
As we know, nowaday car not only for travelling. It also become a place for entertainment.The Executive Director of The Linux Foundation, Jim Zemlin said that Linux seeing a lot of interest among car makers. They expect to see Linux based systems roll out in more cars over next 6-18 months.
Zemlin also convinced that all the automotive industry is going down the right path with Linux.
“By using Linux, car makers can leverage what has already been developed for mobile and consumer electronics and apply it to automobiles.” Said Zemlin, “This reduces research and development time and resources and also helps to meet consumer expectations for consistency between their smart phones, laptops and now, their cars.”
He explained that “Car makers are also betting on Linux to make computing on wheels a reality, because Linux is developed by a global community of developers and organizations, not just one company.” That also makes it cost effective for car companies, since they won’t want to depend on one vendor to handle maintaining all the software in a car’s infotainment system.
“In order to maintain the software in cars, which have a product lifecycle of 5-10 years, car makers are betting on the collaborative development model. This is how Linux wins in auto,” said Zemlin.
First carmaker using Linux platform is Cadillac. Their new XTS, ATS sedan and SRX crossover will use Linux-based infotainment system that provide a very different expecience from their rival. GM decided to use Linux because it was open source that could be easily updated.

Hi.. As a writer it is shame that I’ve not pay attention to car battery. But that happen. My car suddenly can’t start and the light of dashboard keep blinking. It show that something bad happen. I’ve tried using jumper to start the car but it won’t work. At last, one of my friend try to use his car’s battery and it work. It means my battery is down. Yes, I know that because the battery never replace after I buy it about 2 years ago . So this is time to change. This is the battery

This is some basic battery tips and maintenance for me in the future. Hope I’m not forgot about this
Tiips No. 1 – Battery Needs Change – This is common and known to almost all the car owners. Your car’s battery needs to be changed after a duration of four years. Don’t forget to do that.
// Okay.. I’ve to change battery car before 3 years. Maybe because lack of maintenance or maybe the quality of battery.Tips No. 2 – Monthly check of the battery’s load test helps you avoid any hassle. Take your car’s battery to your auto mechanic and can load test it. Make sure your car’s battery is able to pass the test. Make sure that it is capable of sufficient charge even at below freezing temperatures.
// Hm.. Never do it.. Must do it in the future.Tips No. 3 – Just wipe off the battery terminals of any crust. An easy way to do so is to use some baking soda and water. Use a wire brush to clean the crust using this solution.
// Hohohhoh. My previous battery have many crust. Okay I need to buy baking soda after this..Tips No. 4 – Always keep the battery cables tightly tied. Make sure the cables are so tight that they do not move.
// Okay.. I’ll keep in my mind that the cable must be tight.Tips No. 5 – Keep the battery safe in a tray. Also ensure that battery remains properly in the tray so that no damage is caused to the hood.
// Okay.. Need to check regularly and make sure it is in tray. The best is, MyVi have some box to place the battery.Tips No. 6 – Excess of cold is not a good condition for the car batteries. Therefore, look for a solution to it. The best way is to opt for an engine or battery heater. This keeps the car’s battery function smoothly. The heater will help in easily starting the battery and would also minimize the power consumed.
// Ops.. Never heard about this. I don’t think I need to do it because Malaysia is not too cold.Tips No. 7 – Keep a check on when Service is needed – Different cars come with maintenance free battery. Regular check is needed for such automobile batteries. There is a light in maintenance free batteries that goes black when service is required.
// I’ve a schedule for services but not paid attention on batteries. Er.. light in maintenance free batteries? I’ve not found it. Maybe I’ll check it later.Tip No. 8 – For Conventional Car Battery – These batteries come with a plastic cover that can be easily removed to check the water inside. It is important that the water inside the battery reaches the filler necks.
// This is the mistake I’ve do to my previous battery. I’m not check regularly the car battery.Tip No. 9 – Be Careful While Adding Water – Incase there is less water inside the battery, you may also add distilled water. I guess I should warn you at this moment. You might just harm yourself if you don’t be careful. The battery acid that is highly corrosive might harm your clothes.
// Okay, I need to use this tip. It is not just easy to add water to battery.Tip No. 10 – During Battery Check – It is important to make sure that you do not keep any kind of open flames near the car battery. Automobile battery contains chemicals that are combustible and hence can be dangerous.
// It means we need to avoid smoking. Luckily I’m not smoker..Tip No. 11 – Over Charging Should Be Avoided – This is common and known to everybody that a dead battery can be charged using a battery charger. Improper charging of a battery is something that should be avoided. It might also lead to damage of battery’s as well as car’s parts & components.

TRW Automotive has developed new touchpad employs capacitive sensors that allow drivers to use a finger to jot scriprt onto a screen as small as an inch square. By writing a few lettes on the screen, drivers could access the navigation system, a radio station, a certain song on an iPod or numerous other in car features. The key to the system is its ability to allow users to communicate with the vehicle without taking their eyes off the road.
“When drivers are unable to input information in the correct way, they get distracted,” Frank Koch, advanced engineering manager for TRW Body Control, told us. “What we’ve done is calculate the position and motion of your finger, and then translate that into numbers, letters, and words.” The automotive supplier has accomplished that by creating a small screen that allows the driver to keep his or her arm fixed and merely move a thumb or finger to give a command. “You have to have your arm fixed and the touch pad must be near your finger,” Koch said. “You could do that in an armrest or in the steering wheel, where your arm is fixed to the rim of the wheel.”
TRW’s system uses only a few sensors and when a user touches the screen, it sends a signal to microcontroller (MCU) with onboard software algorithms that recognize the change in capacitance and understand the script.
