Sept. 15 (Bloomberg) — Mitsubishi Motors Corp. and Proton Holdings Bhd. plan to jointly build engines and work on small car projects as they expand their alliance, the companies said.
Proton will produce Mitsubishi-brand vehicles at its facilities and share parts with the Japanese automaker for small cars, Proton Managing Director Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir said today. Mitsubishi will also provide the Malaysian carmaker with technology on electric, plug-in and hybrid vehicles, the companies said.
With domestic demand slowing and a strong yen reducing export earnings, Japanese carmakers including Mitsubishi, Toyota Motor Corp. and Suzuki Motor Corp. are investing to expand business in Southeast Asia. Mitsubishi and Proton agreed in December 2008 to make new vehicles together. Under a license agreement, Proton currently produces the Inspira sedan based on a Mitsubishi Motors vehicle.
Separately, the Malaysian newspaper Edge reported earlier today that the two companies are close to signing an agreement to form a joint venture to manufacture vehicles for the Southeast Asian market, citing unidentified people familiar with the matter. The tie-up would give Mitsubishi access to Proton’s Tanjung Malim plant in Malaysia’s Perak state, the report said.
Mitsubishi Motors rose 2 percent to 101 yen at the 3 p.m. close of Tokyo trading. Proton fell 0.4 percent to 2.80 ringgit as of 3:53 p.m. in Kuala Lumpur trading.

A big Triton will likely take attention to customer who really like adventure vehicle.. Not me..

As I’ve mention at previous entry, Mitsubishi won’t built any Evo for their next production. However, Mitsubishi still have the replacement for Evo but the concept will different from current Evo. The next generation of Evo probably will use diesel-electric hybrid powertran which is more fuel saving and likely not very powerful like current Evo. The current Evo, the Evo XI could deliver a 0-62mph time of under five seconds and cut CO2 emissions to well under 200g/km.

Eventhough this is good news for Evo fans but it also could make them sad. It won’t same as old Evo which is more powerful for Rally car.

Who’s doesn’t know about Mitsubishi Lancer Evoluton? If not, so there’s no point to know about it anymore. The car would be dead after this. This rally inspired car still don’t have any replacement yet.Mitsubishi will focus on electric cars for future production and target to become a leader in electric based vehicle .
Eventhough, there a Evolution X in 2013 but it will leave the current Lancer concept. But for Lancer Evo lover, there’s still chance to buy it. The production still planned but there’s no update Lancer Evo concept. So, get’s an alternative, try Proton Inspira. Maybe Proton will advance Inspira to become a best rally-inspired car.
