As we know, China is the biggest market for all product. In automotive, there’s huge opportunity for carmaker to get into China market. On this year, Volvo sold around 50,000 cars and they aim to sell 200,000 by 2015. It is good especially Volvo owned by China’s Geely.
It ain’t easy because there’s a competition from stable market such as BMW, Audi and Mercedes. As Volvo make new technology such as Pedestrian Detection System it will help to boost their selling point.

Volvo need a good marketing strategy to compete with the others name. And I believe Volve maybe can takeover that carmaker. Let’s wait and see..

Volvo has consider to launched a new performance sub division car. The first model will be C30 hatch and the concept version already been built to get public interest. The car will be four wheel drive powerred by 399bhp five cylinder turbo engine and accelerate 0-62 mph in less than 5 second. Production versions will use PCP (Performance Concept Prototype) badge. The priced will be limited to around 500 cars.

Volvo has develop a new mobile application for your smartphone .It claims, it is the most comprehensive and broadly application for controlling and monitoring car. Volvo president Steve Jacoby said: “We design cars around people’s needs and lifestyle. Creating an intuitive driver’s environment is part of our aim to offer a feeling of relaxed control. It is only logical that you should feel in command of your vehicle – even after you’ve parked it.”
It is an extension of their mobile application, Volvo On Call which focus on direst access to a call centre if there’s an accident or emergency. Now, the system has upgrade and all new Volvos ( start 2012 model) can download the application to open up a range of connectivity possibilities via an iPHone or Android smartphone.

The features include:

CAR LOCATER: The car’s position is shown on a map. There’s also a digital compass that points the driver in the right direction and, if necessary, the car’s hooter and indicators can be used to help find it.

REMOTE DOOR LOCK: The status of all doors and windows is displayed – and the driver can lock and unlock the car with a push on the touch screen.

ALARM: If the car alarm is triggered, the driver is alerted.

DASHBOARD: This gives the driver access to a wide range of information: fuel level, remaining range to empty tank, average fuel consumption, average speed, odometer reading and trip meter reading.

CAR CHECK. The mobile app performs a “health” check of the car, displaying information about bulbs, brake fluid level, coolant level, engine oil level and engine oil pressure.

DRIVER’S LOG: Detailed data of each trip during the past 40 days can be downloaded and stored. There is also a possibility to extract the data as an Excel file – perfect for company-car owners.

VEHICLE INFO: Basic car data such as model, registration number and VIN number are stored and can be displayed.

Wow.. Such a cool application. Hope other’s carmaker will begin to develop an application via iPHone and Android smartphone to insist driver. With this technolgy, driver also can get alert especially for their maintenance more efficiency.

There’s a good news for Volvo lover. Volvo will built their plug in hybrid for production. The model V60 will become as the wold’s first diesel plug in hybrid. Using a 2.4 litre five cylinder turbodiesel with 70 hp electric motor on the rear axle and could produces 215 horsepower and 440 Nm(max). The car will features 6 speed automatic transmission. There are 3 different temperaments :-

1. Pure – the car runs only on its electric motor as much as possible.
2. Hybrid – default mode when start. The diesel engine and electric motor will interact to give optimal balance between driving pleasure and low environmental impact.
3. Power – the technology optimized to give the best possible performance whether use diesel or electric or combine the power.

The Volvo V60 could be charge via a regular power socket (230V/6 A, 10A or 16A, dunno whether this size available in Malaysia). The full charge for 10A is about 4.5 hours.
The technology is still develop and testing but Volvo expect this car could be sell next year.
