Automakers try to meet tightening government fuel economy regulations and designer , Michael Arbaugh proposed to throw away CD player in automobile to reduce weight. Arbaugh’s vision to save an average of 5 lbs in weight which is a big deal for automakers.
It is not just lighten the load but it also opens up some highly valuable space. With technical advancements and changes taking place, designers would easily replace the CD player.

I think it is not a big deal to loss CD player especially in this era. We can get entertainment without CD player using another small technology.
As I’ve write before, Proton has make their car wireless. It show that the car not just a transport but can become a medium to make mobile office or leisure place. A big name consortium of companies including Volkswagen, Hyundai, General Motors, Honda, Daimler (Mercedes-Benz), PSA (Peugeot and Citroen) and electronics companies including Samsung, Sony, LG, Nokia, HTC, Panasonic, Garmin and Motorola is working on how to mirror the phone’s display inside a car.
It has prompted major brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Nissan and Mitsubishi to predict the portable satnav market – in much the same way as the iPod market – could soon dry up.One key area car makers believe will attract younger, switched-on buyers is the allure of the always internet-connected car.
According to the global chief executive of Nissan, Carlos Ghosn, Generation Y buyers are getting more difficult to reach. The trend is especially prevalent in Japan, where younger people would rather spend money on their mobile phone than save for a vehicle.However, even more compelling for car makers is the realisation that the smartphone can take over many of the car’s functions, reducing costs in the process.
