Maybe some of us know that Volkswagen has build the factory at Pekan, Pahang for assembly. It is come from RM1billion collaboration between DRB-Hicom Berhad and Volkswagen AG. Today, Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Mohd Najid launched a ceremony of Volkswagen Passat local assembly. Some of 300 units of the completely knocked-down(CKD) Volkswagen Passat 1.8TSI have been assembled at the complex. The Passat 1.8TSI model is the first of a few Volkswagen models to be assembled at Pekan after the collaboration agreement between DRB-Hicom and Volkswagen AG in December 2010.

A new VW Golf GTI Cabriolet will be revealed at Geneva Motor Show next month. A GTI has debuted in Austria last year where it starred alongside an R Cabrio and their new MkVI Golf will be replaced in 2013. The GTI’s engine has been offered in the Golf Cabriolet and Eos hard top or some time, a full GTI-spec car hasn’t been available.
The UK customers will get proper GTI with the 208bhp 2.0 litre turbo matched to GTI-specific suspension (include optional Adaptive Chassis Control) and a GTI interior incorporating tartan seats. Six speed manual and DSG gearbox would feature 17 inc alloys. The Worthersee GTI will use 19 inch Glendale alloy wheels option over the GTI hatch’s standard Monza 17 inch alloys.
It also had 35′s LED lights plus an aggressive bodykit with bespoke front and rear bumpers and side skirts. This will be the most powerful VW convertible produced with 268bhp 2.0 litre turbo and four wheel drive. The GTI Cabriolet will be cost around £27,000 – around £4,000 more than the hatchback. An R version would be priced at around £35,000. The GTI version would arrive in showrooms
by September.

New VW Beetle Cabriolet has been scooped virtually later this year. The model was previewed at the Detroit motor show at the VW E-Bugster concept. The new Beetle Cabrio keeps the folding soft top roof of the last generation model. The production version will get a similar front windscreen surround to the E-Bugster concept as well as the concept’s rear-end styling and high shoulder line.
The engine will feature a A 104bhp 1.2-litre TSI, a 1.4-litre TSI producing 158bhp and a 2.0-litre TSI with 197bhp will be the petrol variants. Diesel options will include a 104bhp 1.6-litre TDI BlueMotion Technology and a 138bhp 2.0-litre TD.
